Keffieh square

The Keffieh (كوفية) is the traditional Palestinian scarf that became a symbol of resistance and the Palestinian cause during the Arab revolt of 1936-39 against the British occupiers in Palestine.

During this time, Palestinian revolutionaries used the keffieh to conceal their identities and avoid being identified and arrested by the British army. However, this practice had the opposite effect, leading to widespread arrests. In response, all Palestinians were called upon to wear the keffieh as a form of protest, thereby cementing its status as a Palestinian symbol and marking the decline of the tarbouche, a red hat primarily worn by Ottomans.

Later on, the keffieh became an international symbol of the Palestinian cause, particularly due to its consistent use by President Yasser Arafat during his speeches to international audiences. Some versions bear the inscription شماغ النشامى الاصلي, which translates to "the authentic keffieh of the brave."

This keffieh is available for purchase from Saad, a merchant in the old city of Jerusalem.

Size: approximately 122*122cm.
