Sa’ad is part of a family of 8 siblings who all grew up as orphans. He was raised by his older brothers, who started from nothing and gradually bought two shops in the old city of Jerusalem. Sa’ad works in one of them. He has an infinite love for the old city of Jerusalem, where he was born, raised, and still lives. In his youth, like many Palestinians during the time of the first Intifada, he was very politically active, which led to several stints in prison and the inability to finish his education.
His store is worth a visit as it is a true museum filled with his creations, colorful jewelry inspired by traditional Palestinian and Bedouin art, as well as ancient embroideries. His store was thriving before the first and second Intifadas had a significant impact on tourism, especially for Palestinians in East Jerusalem, completely isolated from the rest of Palestine. The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent war have not helped either. Six households depend on his income.
