The Palestinian keffiyeh (كوفية) is much more than a scarf: it has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Palestinian identity, unity, and resistance.
Long worn by Palestinian farmers as part of everyday dress, the keffiyeh took on a powerful political meaning during the 1936-1939 Arab Revolt against the British Mandate and Zionist immigration. Palestinian fighters adopted it in part to conceal their identities. As a sign of solidarity, its use spread throughout the population, turning the keffiyeh into a visible symbol of national unity.
Over the decades, the keffiyeh crossed the borders of Palestine and became an international symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
This black and white version features a checkered pattern and bears the Arabic inscription شماغ النشامى الاصلي, meaning “the authentic keffiyeh of the brave.”
Dimensions: approximately 122 × 122 cm.
This keffiyeh is offered by Saad, a Palestinian merchant in Jerusalem’s Old City.
Machine wash at a maximum of 30°C, preferably in a laundry bag, and leave to air dry naturally.
