An authentic Palestinian coin set at the heart of one of the most recognisable symbols of Palestinian memory.
In his workshop in Jerusalem’s Old City, Ahmad transforms a genuine antique Palestinian coin into jewellery by setting it within a key that he handcrafts entirely from sterling silver 925.
Every coin is authentic and carries traces of its own history. The year, patina and signs of age may vary from one pendant to another, making every piece unique.
The key, a symbol of return
The key holds a particular place in the memory of Palestinian refugees from 1948. Some families kept the keys to homes they left or were displaced from, and the object gradually became a collective symbol associated with lost homes and the Palestinian refugee claim to a right of return.
Here, Ahmad brings the key together with a historic coin, combining family memory, history and Palestinian craftsmanship in a single piece.
A genuine coin from Palestine
The Palestine pound was introduced in 1927, during the British Mandate, by the Palestine Currency Board. One pound was divided into 1,000 mils, with coins in several denominations entering circulation from that year.
The currency featured inscriptions in Arabic, English and Hebrew, including the name Palestine, alongside the denomination and design elements such as an olive sprig.
The coin incorporated into this pendant is therefore not a decorative reproduction: it is a genuine period coin, transformed into jewellery by Ahmad in Jerusalem.
A sterling silver 925 chain is included.

Gently clean the silver with a soft, dry cloth. As the coin is antique, avoid abrasive products and metal cleaners that could alter its natural patina.
