The map of Palestine, the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish and enamel craftsmanship brought together in a piece handmade in Jerusalem.
This pendant is made by Ala’, a Palestinian jeweller in Jerusalem’s Old City, from a family in which the craft of jewellery making has been passed down from father to son.
Crafted from sterling silver 925, the pendant follows the silhouette of Palestine and is detailed with red and black enamel, bringing depth and contrast to the silver.
Engraved into the piece is one of the best-known verses by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish:
على هذه الأرض ما يستحق الحياة
“On this earth, there is that which deserves life.”
The delicate Arabic calligraphy, coloured enamel and bright silver finish come together in a distinctive piece that remains easy to wear every day.
