Akram
Akram Al-Wa’ra is a Palestinian artisan from Aida Refugee Camp, near Bethlehem. An engineer by training and a craftsman at heart, he has dedicated his skills to creating meaningful handmade pieces that tell the story of his people.
His workshop is best known for its creations made from recycled tear gas canisters collected in and around the refugee camp. Carefully cleaned, shaped, and handcrafted, these objects—once symbols of violence—are transformed into jewelry, keychains, and decorative pieces that carry a powerful message of resilience, hope, and creativity.
Akram also works with olive wood, one of Palestine’s most iconic natural materials, crafting handmade pieces inspired by the country’s rich artistic heritage. In addition, his workshop offers a carefully curated selection of authentic Palestinian handicrafts, including traditional embroidery, vintage keffiyehs, and other cultural treasures.
For Akram, craftsmanship is much more than a profession. It is a way to preserve memory, protect Palestinian heritage, and pass on traditions despite the many challenges faced by his community.
Every purchase directly supports Akram, his family, and his workshop in Aida Refugee Camp. By choosing one of his creations, you are not only acquiring an authentic piece of Palestinian craftsmanship—you are helping preserve a unique cultural heritage and supporting an artisan who transforms objects marked by conflict into symbols of hope.
