The Palestinian keffiyeh reimagined as a practical everyday bag.

This tote bag is handmade by Akram, an artisan from Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, using fabric featuring the distinctive pattern of the Palestinian keffiyeh.

Over the course of the 20th century, the keffiyeh became one of the most recognisable symbols of Palestinian identity. Here, its traditional pattern is given a new form that is both simple and functional.

Measuring approximately 37 × 40 cm, this 100% cotton tote offers plenty of room for books, shopping and everyday essentials.

Each bag is individually sewn by Akram, so slight variations may occur from one piece to another.

Wash at a maximum of 30°C, preferably on a gentle cycle and with similar colours.
Do not tumble dry.

Behind the Product

Bethlehem - Artisan

Akram

Akram Al-Wa'ra is a Palestinian artisan from Aida refugee camp, near Bethlehem. Trained as an engineer, he creates unique pieces by transforming, among other materials, tear gas canisters fired at the camp by the occupying army, as well as nobler materials such as olive wood, into jewelry and handcrafted objects — symbols of resilience and hope. Through his work, he preserves Palestinian craftsmanship while sustaining his workshop and his family.
