An authentic Palestinian coin, transformed into jewellery in Jerusalem’s Old City.
In his workshop, Ahmad gives new life to a genuine Palestinian 1 mil coin, minted between 1927 and 1947. He crafts its sterling silver 925 setting entirely by hand, carefully designed to hold the coin while leaving its details and naturally aged bronze visible.
Measuring approximately 2 cm in diameter, the coin bears the name “Palestine” in Arabic, English and Hebrew, alongside its year of minting. On the other side, its denomination is surrounded by an olive branch.
Each original coin has travelled through nearly a century of history. Its date, patina, bronze tones and signs of age therefore naturally vary from one pendant to another, making every necklace genuinely unique.
A Palestinian currency minted between 1927 and 1947
The Palestine pound was introduced in 1927 under the British Mandate and issued by the Palestine Currency Board. The mil was its smallest denomination: one Palestine pound was divided into 1,000 mils.
These coins still bear the name of Palestine directly in the metal in three languages. Rather than altering this historical element, Ahmad preserves it, crafting a setting around the original coin so that it can be worn while retaining its authentic character.
From an original coin to a handcrafted piece of jewellery
The coin reaches Ahmad’s hands carrying the marks accumulated over decades. In his workshop in Jerusalem’s Old City, he then works the silver by hand to create the setting that will hold each individual piece.
Completed with a sterling silver 925 chain, the pendant brings together two stories: that of an original Palestinian currency and that of Palestinian jewellery craftsmanship still practised in Jerusalem today.
A Palestinian coin necklace whose individuality is not artificially reproduced: every patina, mark and date belongs to the genuine coin from which it is made.
Avoid contact with water, perfume, cosmetics and household products. Gently wipe the silver with a soft cloth after wearing and store the necklace in a dry place.
The patina and marks on the antique coin are part of its history and character. Do not use abrasive products or metal cleaners on the coin, as these may alter its original surface.
