Two pieces of Palestinian memory brought together in a single piece of jewellery.

Ahmad combines an authentic coin from Mandatory Palestine with a key that he handcrafts from sterling silver 925 in his workshop in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Every original coin bears traces of its own history: the year, patina and signs of age may vary, making each pendant genuinely unique.

The key and Palestinian memory

The key has become one of the symbols associated with Palestinian refugees and their claim to a right of return following the displacement of 1948. It evokes, in particular, the homes and properties left behind by families who became refugees. The question of Palestinian refugee return was subsequently addressed in several UN resolutions, including Resolution 194 of December 1948.

By shaping the silver setting as a key, Ahmad brings together family memory and Palestine’s monetary history in a single piece.

An authentic coin from Palestine

The Palestine pound was introduced in 1927 during the British Mandate and divided into 1,000 mils. Coins issued by the Palestine Currency Board bore the name Palestine in multiple languages.

The antique coin set into this pendant is therefore not a reproduction: each necklace incorporates a genuine period coin.

Rather than presenting these coins as an “investment,” their value here lies in their historical authenticity, age and transformation into jewellery by Ahmad in Jerusalem.

A sterling silver 925 chain is included.

Avoid contact with water, perfume, cosmetics and chemical products.

Gently clean the silver with a soft, dry cloth. To preserve the character of the antique coin, avoid abrasive products and metal cleaners that could alter its natural patina.
