An authentic Palestinian coin transformed into jewellery in Jerusalem.
In his workshop in Jerusalem’s Old City, Ahmad transforms a genuine Palestinian 5 mils coin, minted between 1927 and 1947, into a pendant designed to carry its history forward.
Rather than altering the original coin, he crafts its setting by hand, following its shape while preserving the inscriptions, patina and traces left by time. The setting is available in sterling silver 925 or with a gold-plated finish, and the pendant comes complete with its chain.
A coin that still bears the name of Palestine
Measuring approximately 2 cm in diameter, the coin bears the name “Palestine” in Arabic, English and Hebrew, alongside its year of minting. Its other side features the denomination and an olive branch.
The Palestine pound was introduced in 1927 under the British Mandate and issued by the Palestine Currency Board. One pound was divided into 1,000 mils, with 5 mils coins circulating during this period.
The inscriptions remain visible directly in the metal today, providing a tangible record of the currency that circulated in Palestine during the first half of the twentieth century.
An antique coin, making every piece truly unique
This is also what makes the necklace so distinctive: Ahmad does not work with a modern reproduction. Every pendant is created around an authentic antique coin.
Its year of minting, patina, tones and the subtle marks accumulated over the decades naturally vary. No two pendants will ever be exactly alike — and these differences are precisely what give each piece its individual character.
Handcrafted in Jerusalem’s Old City
Ahmad individually crafts the setting for each coin in his workshop. His work transforms the original currency into a wearable piece of jewellery while allowing its history to remain visible.
This Palestinian 5 mils coin pendant therefore brings together a coin minted between 1927 and 1947 with Palestinian jewellery craftsmanship still practised in Jerusalem today: an original piece of history to wear, rather than a story simply told.
Avoid contact with water, perfume, cosmetics and household products.
For the sterling silver 925 setting, use only a soft, dry cloth. For the gold-plated finish, avoid repeated friction and abrasive products to help preserve the plating.
Do not polish the antique coin. Its patina, natural tones and signs of age are part of its character and should be preserved.
